History of Phototherapy

Phototherapy or light therapy is the use of sunlight, lasers, fluorescent lamps, or LED's to treat a variety of disorders. Light in its various spectrums and wavelengths has been used to treat maladies  from acne, psoriasis,  Rosacea, SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) also known as Cabin Fever or The Winter Blues ,neo-natal jaundice to cutaneous T-Cell lymphoma ( a type of cancer that first appears on the skin). And now The Dynamax Freedom100 has harnessed this light energy via LED's to treat hair loss, thinning hair,and balding. 

From the beginning of time, Ancient Civilizations have been trying to harness the positive energy of light. That is why some ancient civilizations have also been known as " Sun Worshipers ". The Greek physician Herodotus ( 490 - 431 BC ) is wrongly known as the Father of Heliotherapy ( the theraputic exposure to sunlight ). Herodotus was a proponent of using exposure to the sun for the restoration of health, but he was not the first. In fact it was early as 1400 BC when people in India used psoralens (plant compounds) and then were exposed to sunlight to cure certain types of skin ailments. The 18th and 19th century saw the French reintroduce light therapy to treat tuberculosis ,edema,scurvy, paralysis,and rickets. In 1903 ,the Danish physician Niels Finsen received the Nobel Prize in Medicine  "in recognition of his contribution to the treatment of diseases, especially lupus vulgaris, with concentrated light radiation, whereby he has opened a new avenue for medical science". The 1980's saw Light Therapy become a medically recognized treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder ( SAD ) , also known as Cabin Fever and The Winter Blues.
